Attention all fifth grade families!  As of this week 63% of fifth grade families have participated in the SchoolChoice process for their middle school bound students.  As fifth grade is considered a transition year, students MUST participate in the choice process unless they wish to decline this opportunity to determine the next step in their educational career.  Do not let DPS make this very important decision for you.

SchoolChoice round 1 opened January 15 and will close February 15.  If your student is a boundary student to Park Hill then you are in an enrollment zone for middle school.  You have a guaranteed spot in one of the Greater Park Hill/Stapleton enrollment zones schools.  The choice process is also the time you can opt for a school that is not located in your enrollment zone. As school choice is 100% on-line this year, please go to and click on the green banner touting school choice enrollment.  You will use your parent portal login credentials.

If you have questions please call the PHE office at (720) 424-4910 or the SchoolChoice hotline at 720-423-3493. Hotline hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Email:

Gaga is a super fun, high energy game!  The game is played in a pit. We had some super awesome Park Hill parents donate a Gaga pit to Park Hill.  We also had a lot of amazing parents set up the court and brilliantly problem solved some ball pit building issues.

What is Gaga ball you ask?  Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Dubbed a kinder gentler version of dodge ball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout. Currently, only 3rd, 4th and 5th can play the game. Eventually, we will add 1st and 2nd graders to the mix once they have practiced multiple times in PE.

The Chicago Tribune posted this article “Gaga ball becoming the great playground equalizer.”

Gaga Ball Rules!

  1. Only 10 players at a time.
  2. Start each game by standing against the wall, hand on wall.
  3. One player tosses the ball into the middle of the court. The ball must bounce 3 times (Ga, Ga, Go) prior to any participant leaving the wall.
  4. Players hit the ball with open or closed hand (no kicking, catching or throwing).
  5. Players try to hit other players below the knee with the ball.
  6. Players cannot touch the ball twice in a row unless:
  • The ball ricochets off the wall.
  • The ball hits another player.
  1. If player hits the ball out of the court, they are out.
  2. If players use the wall to help them jump or leave the pit, they are out.
  3. Don’t curl into a ball or drop to knees or you are out.
  4. If you are already out and someone hits the ball over the wall and you catch it, you are back in.
  5. When it gets down to the last 2 players, they have 30 seconds to try to get the other one out. If no one gets out, they rock paper scissors to see who stays in.
  6. Do not sit on the wall, thanks!
  7. Demonstrate good sportsmanship and play fair!
  8. Most importantly – HAVE FUN!

“Ga” means “touch” in Hebrew

Park Hill Dames and Gents, the I Heart Park Hill Auction website is live and ready to roll! Visit to register for the auction (avoid the line the night of the event), buy raffle tickets for our amazing “Union Staycation” and donate to Cash for Paras (we love our paras and want to fund as many hours in our classrooms as possible!). Check out our full catalog of items up for auction, including our awesome Buy-A-Shares and Teacher Time (sold as first come, first serve at the auction). Hit the Buy It Now page for an array of gift cards that we want to move before the auction. You’re spending money at these establishments anyway, so why not have those dollars go directly to PHE? Everything you need to know about our party is on the website, so please visit often! We are adding more items to our catalog every day!! Our goal is to raise $100,000 at this event and we can’t do it without your generous support. KEEP PARK HILL STRONG!

We are full steam ahead and need your help!! Please check out the Volunteer Sign Up Genius (it takes a village to put on this beast!) and please give your time. This is our largest and most important fundraiser of the year, so we need all hands on deck!

Need an auction yard sign? We have a few left, so swing by 2063 Elm and grab one off the porch. Please promote our event with your neighbors, friends, and family! It’s free to attend and a great adults-only night out!

WE NEED BASKETS! Have any old baskets lying around your basement or garage that we can take off your hands? We could use them for our silent auction items! Please drop them on Heath’s porch (2063 Elm). Otherwise, we have to buy them at Goodwill and they add up ($$) quickly.

Book your sitters, get your 20’s costumes (totally optional), and GET TO THE JUICE JOINT! FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2019!

Please come to the office to claim your white beaded wedding / flower girl dress, found backstage of the PH auditorium.  The dress will be donated if not claimed by February 15.

It’s hard to believe but it but summer is right around the corner! DPS offers a variety of summer camp options around Denver including Discovery Link Camp, Enrichment Exploration Camp and Sports Camp. For more information, please visit the Discovery Link website at /

We are giving away these boxes on a first come basis. If you’d like to try out a Bitsbox at home, come to Room 222 and pick up a box.  Bitsbox is an online subscription driven student coding site.  With a subscription, on a monthly basis your child would receive a new box with new coding projects.
