Happy Friday Park Hill Families:
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy. Every day it seems I grow a little more sad in the fact that we are not in our building learning together. We all miss our students and being together in person. I want to thank all of you for your patience and support, and please know that all of us wish we were at the school learning with our friends and teachers. It is my hope that we are starting the fall school year back in our building, and we will do everything within our power to make that happen, while at the same time following the guidelines from our district and our state health officials. We will continue to communicate out as more information comes our way. We know these are stressful times for you and your children, and I encourage you to do what you feel is best for your family when it comes to workload, screen time, and overall schooling.
Please note that the last day of school this year will remain Friday, May 29. We are working with the kindergarten team and the fifth grade team to ensure we are celebrating our students who are “ graduating” to the next grade. Expect more details within the next week.
I also want to officially announce that our stakeholder committee has decided to transition to the YMCA next year for our before-and-after school programming. That means we will dissolve our partnership with Discovery Link. We appreciate all that Discovery Link has offered over the years, and thank them for their service to Park Hill Elementary.
As for the YMCA, we are excited about the program and the structure that they will bring to Park Hill. Our stakeholder committee spent significant time speaking to the director of the YMCA, as well as asking thorough questions and checking various references from other YMCA school programs. We were able to get all of our questions answered in a satisfactory manner, and we believe we have a strong partnership moving forward. In particular, the YMCA is willing to work with us on priority enrollment, increasing site capacity, and exhausting the waitlist. In addition, they have a pre-established curriculum and a proactive student-first approach to management and discipline. I will have more information for families within the next week regarding registration and next steps. *Full disclaimer – we do not yet know what after-school programming will look like in the Fall due to COVID-19. This will be determined by the CDE and state health officials.
Lastly, Chris and Jen Mone have the Milk caps for Moola box on their front porch (2025 Fairfax St, Denver, CO 80207) until the May 15th. If you’ve been saving your Longmont Dairy ONLY caps now is the time to cash those in! All those milk caps equal a nice chunk of fundraising change for PHE.
