Friday Folder for April 17th, 2020

Happy Friday PHE Parents!

I hope this message finds you well and in good health.  Thank you all for your hard work and patience as we continue to get used to this ‘new normal.’

Coffee with Ken – Friday, April 24th from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at your place

Join us (virtually) for Coffee with Ken next Friday, April 24, from 8:00 am until 9:00 am. Principal Burdette will update everyone on our current learning situation with what he knows and what to expect. We are going to give it a go using Zoom since that seems to be able to handle large groups. Everyone will be muted as they join. When we get to the question and answer portion we’ll have you type “question” into the chat box and Principal Burdette will call on people. You can use your browser with this link.

Letter regarding Specials

Parents:
The purpose of this email is to hopefully answer some questions about Specials classes and to provide some clarity around the expectations. Specials ideally should be a place of joy and fun for your student – We do NOT want this to be overwhelming for you or your student. Everything you need to know about Specials classes can be found in the email. Please save it as a reference point.

Specials Expectations:  Our hope is that students can complete one 20 minute Specials class per day.  Go directly to the website to find assignments and helpful resources.   https://sites.google.com/dpsk12.net/phspecials/home

Possible switch from Discovery Link to YMCA – Info

Dear Park Hill Families:

As I recently communicated prior to the closing of our school buildings, Park Hill is considering switching after-school programming for next year. We have had a long standing relationship with Discovery Link; however, due to a constant change in site-based leadership as well as parent feedback, we are exploring other options for the 20-21 school year.

Attached is information from the YMCA.  As many of you are familiar with the YMCA as a whole, I have been impressed with what they can offer, and what their plans would be for Park Hill, should we decide to move forward with them as our after-school care provider.

Friday Folder, April 11th

Happy Friday PHE Parents:

I hope this message finds you well and in good health. I want to personally thank you for your patience, perseverance, and support as we tackle this new practice of Remote Learning. We knew there would be some challenges with this roll-out, and we continue to make improvements each day. Nonetheless, I am very proud of our students and teachers for engaging in the online learning this week, and thank each of you as parents and family members for your help and support. These times are not ideal in numerous ways, and I am thankful for the Park Hill community.

Please continue to reach out to your student’s teacher(s) and/or the Administration with any questions or needs. Our hope is for students to begin to be more independent with this work starting next week, especially in the older grades. The one area where we ask for your continued support is teaching your student how to mute/unmute their screen when in Google Meets. This will help limit the noise and lead to more engaging conversation and rigorous academics.

Thanks for your support!

Dear Park Hill Families:

Just a quick note of thanks for all your support and kind words this past week.  You have been extremely kind, supportive, and compassionate throughout this entire process.

We had a successful turn-out in regards to our Tech distribution on Thursday.  We are officially on “spring break” this coming week; however, I will still check my email and I know many teachers and staff will as well.  Please reach out with any questions and/or needs.

By April 6th, you will receive an email(s) from your child’s teacher regarding the plan for remote learning.  Our goal is to keep a consistent schedule, communication style, and expectations throughout the remote learning window. We know this will be best for students and parents by doing so. Remote learning will officially begin on Tuesday, April 7th.

Please stay well and positive.  We miss seeing our students and we know they miss seeing their teachers and their friends. Please reach out if there is anything we can do.

Best,

Ken Burdette
