Family and Community Resources:
Welcome back! Hopefully the promise of a new year brings hope and optimism for 2021. Even so, many families in our community continue to face unprecedented challenges. It is important to know that you or your family members might experience intense and complex emotions during these times. While many welcome the transition to in-person learning, it may also feel like a disruption or bring up questions about safety. Even those who remain in remote learning may be faced with schedule changes or classroom changes. If you or your children are experiencing emotions of anxiety, disappointment, stress, or isolation, know that you are not alone in this.
Many families wonder, what is a typical response versus what is cause for concern? The following list includes some things to watch out for in your child, these signs indicate it is time to reach out for additional support:
- Changes in eating habits and/or sleeping patterns that persist for 2 or more weeks
- Significant changes in personality or academic performance over a period of time
- Lack of interest in activities that were once rewarding
- Withdrawal from friends and family
- Helplessness or hopelessness
- Talking/writing/drawing about death or other concerning topics
- Verbal or written statements about harming self or others
