Happy Friday PHE Families:

It is hard to believe there are only 8 weeks of school left!  Personally, I am excited for the end of year activities we have planned, and look forward to a strong finish to the school year with all of you.

A quick update on our field and grounds ~ I have spoken to the district, and we plan to have the full field re-sodded in the coming months.  This will include an upgrade to the irrigation system as well.  More details will be shared as information comes in.  Also, the sidewalks and steps around the school (West, North, East) will be repaired and re-concreted over the summer to ensure safer pedestrian access and walk space.  Exciting news!

CMAS Testing beginning April 12

As a reminder, CMAS testing for Grades 3-5 will begin on April 12th.  Testing will occur over a 2 week period on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.  Please do everything you can to be here if possible, but we ask students not to come if ill. If you know of absences in advance of testing, please reach out to Assistant Principal Bixby (margaret_bixby@dpsk12.org) to coordinate makeup testing.

 

Park Hill Equity Corner

Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education (PHNEE) is a group of engaged parents and community members working to ensure that all students attending our neighborhood’s elementary schools get a quality education. We host a community event virtually on the second Wednesday of each month to share ideas, hear from experts, and build a community of support for diversity, equity, and inclusion in our schools. Join us for this free monthly event on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. School board member Carrie Olson will be joining us to talk about the current state of DPS. Register here. School Choice Round 2 opens April 12 at 10am

Round 2 of the DPS SchoolChoice enrollment process for the 2022-23 school year opens 10 a.m. April 12 for all grades and closes 4 p.m. Aug. 31 for all grades except ECE (Round 2 for ECE remains open until April, 2023).

Who is it for:  For families with children entering ECE, K, 6th or transferring to another school only for the 2022-23 school year Round 2 is the first-come, first-served segment of SchoolChoice for families who missed Round 1; took part in Round 1 but want to re-explore their options; or are new to DPS for next school year.

How do I apply:  Start at dps.schoolmint.net. Sign into your SchoolChoice account and apply to your preferred schools that have availability. If you don’t have an account, you can create one using your email address or a current Parent Portal log-in.

How does Round 2 work:  Round 2 applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the application is received by the school, your student will be placed on a waitlist while the school processes the application. If the school has available space, your student will be approved and enrolled for next year. There is no lottery in Round 2, but priorities are given. If a waitlist exists, your student will be added to the list in date and time order within your given priority. Please note: This means that waitlist positions may change up or down.

If your student is accepted to a school in Round 2, any Round 1 school assignment is relinquished. You will remain on waitlists for any higher-ranked schools.

Summer Connections

Summer Connections is a free, full-day summer school opportunity through Denver Public Schools. All students that will be enrolled in 1st through 5th grade for the 2022-23 school year are eligible to participate.  Licensed teachers will be teaching literacy, math, science, art, and career exploration. Students will engage in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities for 60 minutes each day. They will engage in social emotional learning every day, as well. There will also be fun events throughout the summer at the school and on field trips!  Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided at no charge.

Registration is open through April 29, 2022. Applications are first-come, first-served. Once capacity is reached at a school, students will be placed on a waitlist.

Dates: June 14th through July 22nd. Summer Connections runs for six weeks.

Bus transportation in the morning and in the afternoon is available to students who live more than one mile from their assigned Summer Connections location. Children’s Concerts on April 9 at Montview

FREE for EVERYONE! Students AND Adult!  The show is about 45 minutes and casual. Kids will be moving around, dancing the aisles, etc.

 

Colorado Water Polo Splashball Program

Introduction to Water Polo for children ages 5-11.  Learn to play water polo in shallow water with Denver Water Polo, instruction is by Masters players and Colorado Water Polo Coaches. No prior experience necessary; for kids comfortable in the water. Join us at various pools around the Denver Metro area this summer!

Cost: $50/month & a USA Water Polo Splashball Passholder junior membership is required: $15/year

5th Grade Continuation Information

5th Grade Field Presentations on June 2:

Cowen & Mills @ 9:00am

Ash, Ferguson @ 9:45am

Parents can bring a chair or picnic blanket for the ceremony.

The 5th grade car parade will beginning @ 10:50am:

  • – Cowen – 10:50
  • – Mills – 11:00
  • – Ash – 11:10
  • – Ferguson – 11:20

Route:  Cars should begin by turning off Montview Blvd onto Dahlia St (South) and proceed East along 19th Avenue to Fairfax St. Cars will then turn right (South) on Fairfax St. to continue the parade towards 17th Avenue to end the parade.

How: We need all families to come through the parade in their cars. If using a car is not possible for this day, we ask that families use bikes in a safe manner.

Additional Notes: Please adhere to the time slots of your child’s class to create a consistent traffic flow. However, siblings are welcome to come together at one time if easier.  In addition, it would be helpful if you could write your child’s name on a sheet of paper or poster board and display through the front/right car window.

JCC Ranch Camp

Ranch Camp is the JCC’s overnight summer camp that brings all the camp magic you know and love to a sleepaway setting. They offer one-week mini sessions to get younger campers introduced to the overnight camp experience in a supportive, accessible, and most of all, fun

way. With multiple resources to prepare first-time campers and parents and specially trained counselors, the Ranch Camp team is here to make your overnight campexperience the best it can be.
