Happy Friday Park Hill Families:

Thank you all for another great week of school. I do want to inform you that we have had a total of five positive Covid cases. These cases have been spread out among students and staff, including a guest teacher and a DPS support partner. They have also spanned over all grades. Thankfully, these cases did not result in a mass quarantine for any class or grade. If your child was impacted or exposed, you would have received notification from me. As always, you can reach out to our office team with additional questions.

In light of this, I want to bring to your attention once again the importance of wearing our masks and wearing masks properly that also fit us properly.  When it comes to the question of quarantine or not, it often has to do with length of exposure as well as whether or not the parties were wearing their mask correctly. Please continue to remind your children about the importance of this, and send them with a mask that fits them properly. We do have extra kid size masks here at school. Also, if it is a reusable mask, I highly recommend washing it at least a few times each week.

Registration for Enrichments begins Friday, September 17th at 4pm.  Any parents or guardians who register prior to that time will have their fee refunded and may potentially need to re-register for the course at a later time if there are still openings.  Please help us to make this a fair process for each of our families and students.

I hope this email finds everyone doing well. Once again, thank you for supporting us through another good week. Despite the intense heat of the past few days, our students have truly persevered and are showing great spirit in all they do.

In particular, we would like to extend our appreciation to our parents and families who are taking all precautions when it comes to your child feeling ill or having possibly been exposed to someone with Covid.  It is through our parents and community that we will keep each other safe and keep our doors open.

If you are concerned that your child has been exposed to someone in your family or in their network who is Covid positive, please call the office immediately, or send an email to our administrative team. Thank you in advance for continuing to put our student safety first.

Park Hill Families:
Good afternoon Park Hill Families and happy Friday. We have
successfully made it through our first week of school. We recognize
that there were a few hiccups and some additional logistics we
needed to figure out. Nonetheless, it was a good week overall. I saw
many happy students and joyful classrooms. A big thank you to all of
the teachers and staff, the students and the families. Together, we
made it a great first week back, and I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing weekend.

I do believe it is important to share our district’s health and safety
protocols at this time. Included in this newsletter is a link to the DPS
website that clarifies our health and safety protocols as they relate to COVID.  At Park Hill, we are fortunate to have an amazing nurse and office staff that are well-versed in how to handle a child who is not feeling well. While there are specific protocols in place, we will handle each case individually as it comes. We will investigate the reasons and symptoms of why a child does not feel well. This will include whether or not they had breakfast, if there is an underlying or pre-existing medical condition such as allergies or asthma, and we will do everything we can to determine how that child is feeling at the moment and what needs to be done. We will also communicate with parents, which may include the need to pick up your child from the office if there are noticeable symptoms. Please do not pre-load your student with Advil/Tylenol or any other medication prior to coming to school if you know they are already not feeling well. We thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. Our goal is to keep Park Hill open and to keep all of our students and adults safe and healthy.

Good Afternoon Park Hill Families:

I hope this message finds you doing well. Once again, I would like to reiterate my sincere appreciation for your support and generosity with our Dance Party fundraiser last Friday. It was a huge success, and we rely on this type of support to effectively run our programs and staff within the school.

In addition, and on a more serious note, I have noticed an uptrend with students picking up inappropriate language and racially insensitive concepts from social media, and bringing these to school to share. This includes videos seen on TikTok and YouTube, as well as TV programming more suitable for teenagers and up. As you might expect, this leads to curiosity within our students, especially when they do not know what a word or a topic means, and especially not having the proper context for it. Please take a moment or two and speak with your children around what they are watching and what they are taking away from it. This includes the use of racial slurs that they have heard as well as racially insensitive topics. In the fall, we will offer various parent workshops around these very topics and conversations. This is in support of our Black Excellence Plan and our commitment to equity and inclusion.  Please be on the lookout for more as we move into next year.
