Happy Friday PHE:

We had a short but busy week at school! Hopefully the unexpected Snow Day this past Tuesday was enjoyable for your family.

We are fast approaching the school Auction on February 23rd.  This will be a very fun event for the adults in our school community. Please be sure to register ahead of time.  The money raised supports the hiring and retention of our ParaProfessionals, Nursing, Psych, and even Intervention - that is the impact of our funds raised!  Our Interventionists serve students in K-5th with additional reading supports and foundational skills.  We could not do this work without the partnership and generous support of our PHE families.

Enrollment & Planning for 2024-25

Yesterday we sent out an email requesting all of our K-4th grade families login to the new DPS SchoolChoice system and let us know of their plans for the 2024-25 school year.  We count on these numbers to help budget and plan for next year with the goal to ensure that we maintain appropriate staffing levels and classroom sizes.  Please take a moment to login (with your DPS ParentPortal email and credentials) and update your PHE student status for next year.

As a reminder, all 5th grade students continuing on to middle school, incoming kindergarten and ECE-4 students or those looking to transfer to another DPS school should be making their DPS school elections in the SchoolChoice system as well.

The Choice window is open until February 12 @ 4pm. For Round 1, elections can be made at any point during the window.  If you’re running into issues feel free to reach out to the office or call the SchoolChoice hotline (720-423-3493).

Update: Marade rescheduled to February 27

The annual Martin Luther King parade (Marade) for Pre-K, Kinder and 1st grade students has been rescheduled to February 27.  The parade will start at Turtle (WH Ferguson) Park at 9:45am and from there make their way to Montview Church where Dr King spoke 60 years ago.  Students will meet up with other students from Park Hill schools during the event. Parents are invited to participate!  In solidarity with our Primary grades, our PHE students in grades 2-5 will march around the school perimeter that day at 10am.

Looking to borrow umbrellas and butterfly wings for a performance

Ms. McClelland is looking to borrow child-size umbrellas (any graphics are fine) and butterfly wings! She needs approximately 30 of each if possible. If you are willing to lend something you have, please bring it labeled with your name by January 26th. She will need them until March 14th. Thank you!

YMCA Summer Camp

Sign up for YMCA summer camps opens to the general public on February 5.  Park Hill will not be hosting a camp this year, but we are told there will be nearby camps at Palmer Elementary and Clayton Early Learning center.  More information can be found at: https://denverymca.org/programs/youth-programs/summer-day-camp

Community Item: PHNEE Special Event

Please join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education for a Special Event: Integration and Equity in Denver Public Schools 50 Years After Keyes February 10, 2024 | 8:30 am - 2:00 pm, Manual High School, 1700 E 28th Ave, Denver, CO 80205.  In 1973, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Keyes v. Denver Public Schools, requiring DPS to desegregate all of its schools. Fifty years later, DPS is, by many measures, as segregated as it was before the decision with many of the same negative consequences for students. Current DPS policy acknowledges the need to “identify and remove deeply rooted systems of oppression” in order to ensure equity for every student. As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of Keyes, we have an opportunity and an obligation to dismantle this particular system of oppression in the hopes that we are not confronting the same challenges in another 50 years. Join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education (PHNEE) as we explore the history of Keyes, acknowledge its unfulfilled promises of integration, and consider how we can ensure equity and excellence for every DPS student.  Register here! And read this month’s full newsletter here!

Auction Action Items for this week! TO DO!!

Wine and liquor donations: We are hoping to acquire 200+ bottles of wine of varying value for a fun game of chance - the wine pull! Unique bottles of wine or liquor are also appreciated for our silent auction.

Register! If you haven’t already, register now! Register Here

It is a free event but everyone who will attend will need to register separately. Our goal is that everyone is registered by Feb 1st!

Silent Auction donations: Please help support the event by donating something for our silent auction! Our silent auction includes all sorts of items; from high end camping gear, summer camp sessions, to professional coaching services. Specifically, we are in need of more tickets (concert, theater, sports games, etc.) and home and family services (think photography sessions, landscaping services, interior design, organization…)

Great Getaways: Do you or someone you know own a cabin or condo outside of Denver? A camper? Donate a period of time that can be auctioned at the event - and, bonus, you get a trustworthy renter for that period of time!

Have another idea or hot lead? An experience? Know a business owner?  Contact auction@parkihillptsa.com and committee chair, Laurie Martin (lauriedotmartin@gmail.com). All donations can be submitted through this form.

What to wear:  Dig out the Binaca, dust off that snorkel gear, and stain treat that white tux, because we're reliving that night in high school full of enchantment... prom!   Where do you find inspiration for your attire, you ask?  The world is your oyster!

You can take inspo from those classic prom scenes in "Back to the Future," "Pretty in Pink," "Napoleon Dynamite," or go crazy with the "Under the Sea" theme—tentacles, anyone?  Or dare I say... come as a mashup of both! But whatever you do, bring some shoes you can groove in, because a 784 square foot dance floor awaits!  Go classic, go cheesy, go calamari—you really can't go wrong!  Live the “Enchantment Under the Sea” prom you want to live!

Did you know… the hotel has a room block for us? Call to book and let them know you’re with this part  to get a discounted room on our block! Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Denver: 303.321.3333

VOLUNTEER! A heads-up - we will be sending a signup genius in next week’s Panther Pages - we will need volunteers to help with the day of set-up, registration during the event, tear down briefly that night and packing up/out the following day.

It’s “Restaurant Night Out” season!
